The “Wrong” Way
We’ve got some pretty hard and fast rules in postural yoga. Sometimes they make a lot of sense, but sometimes they could use a bit of scrutiny. Take the breath for example, our protocols have a purpose, but could we shift our breathing to serve another, just as important purpose? This class will explore common postures and transitions but in a whole new way.
Something for Nothing
Often we have an intractible, parasitic tension that causes pain. This tension is the bodies’ way of protecting an area. Sometime, relieving the tension can relieve the pain. Most of the time a stretch won’t do it. Instead we will have to teach the tissues to let go. This is a class about learning to let go, with techniques for doing just that.
Liminal Creatures
In practice we will explore the state of liminality; A transitional time that is characterized by a lack of status or role. This is a particularly challenging state of being as most of us are learning! Our lives, never terribly certain, are now marked with a new level of transition and uncertainty in this time of Corona Virus. We will use this idea to go really deep into our movement practice today. Very much emphasizing the transitional movements that we usually throw away and instead throw away the beginnings and the endings.
Push Up Resolution
This class is a celebration of taking it step by step and enjoying the journey. With no full pushups in sight, you will build strength and stamina in your shoulders, chest and back using eccentric work and a boatload of plyometrics. it’s an absolute blast and a great way to start 2021. This is a live class so you will hear some good natured interaction among the participants. – Mandy
Nurture the Process
A wiggly, stretchy practice that stays low to the mat. You’ll get some time in some standard and adventurous hip openers but also explore some somatic movements and strength drills. As you move you will learn and be inspired by the biological process of learning. Just a touch of neuroscience!
