Stretching Water

We are each granted an amazing opportunity in this life to cherish and protect priceless vessel that we get to live in. I’ve noticed that when my students learn more about their body they can’t help but be in awe of how incredible it is. How unfathomable and amazing is it, that this flesh facilitates our unique and evolving consciousness throughout our lifespan. I’ve learned over the years, that when people know more about their body they make better choices. And that’s what your practice this week is all about. I’d like to help you to understand a little bit more about the structure of your connective tissues, And as always I’ll help you to learn in the best way, through experience. So for today, we will be stretching water.

Getting to Know Your Back

The back is an incredibly complicated structure anatomically, but even more so when you consider other parts of the experience like the the vascular system and the nervous system. But humans are not just walking talking tissues. We are embodied selves with thoughts, feelings, beliefs and predictions. These parts of our experience are EVERY BIT as important to our experience as the tissues themselves, maybe even MORE important.

All of the nerves in our body require a state of sliding and gliding within our tissues. When nerves get stuck, or compressed, they tell us. While the causes of sciatic nerve pain or sciatica are numerous and not terribly well understood. We do know that restoring a suppleness and fluidity to the tissues of the low back, glutes, pelvic floor and thighs can be helpful . To restore or maintain this fluidity, in this practice, we will use a technique known as nerve flossing.

Homage to Your Spine

Your spine is the most exquisite structure. Capable of incredible mobility and unparalleled stability, it’s been evolving for millions of years and has within it the intelligence of eons. Yet, if you listen to popular culture and even some Yoga wisdom, the spine is very delicate. It is in need of protection and only truly stable in a few select positions.
