Your endocrine system, your immune system, and your motor system all mobilize to protect you from real or potential threats. In this class we will explore the areas of the body that are often guarding, ready to fight or flee; the psoas and the pelvic floor. We will utilize breathing practice, awareness, somatic education and yes, even a little stretching to soothe these areas which can in turn, turn down the volume in your entire nervous system.

Chronic stress is linked to many of the most pernicious chronic diseases that plague modern humans. Managing stress is of critical importance for health, memory, learning and quality of life. For those with persisting pain, stress is an amplifier of pain and suffering. We can’t change the stressful times that we live in. But there are simple, evidence informed strategies that you can use to reduce your stress in the moment, and with practice, manage your responses to stressors in the long term. In this practice we actually explore three of these strategies.

Gliding Thumb for Neck and Jaw Bliss

This practice is a bit experimental. We utilize a Feldenkrais Method® Technique called gliding thumb throughout and rest in static Yin poses to integrate and rest. Our focus will be awareness and safety in the neck, jaw and shoulders. Often, if we have pain in one of those areas, we have some sensitivity in the others as well.
